Born to Celebrate

The new Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary celebrates one of the most successful riders of all time and the symbol of an entire community: Troy Bayliss. A special motorcycle, manufactured in a numbered series, the pure expression of Ducati sportsmanship and a tribute to a timeless passion.

Based on the Panigale V2, this version is made unique by the special livery, inspired by the 996 R on which Bayliss won his very first world championship title in 2001, and by the prestigious Öhlins components, that bring the track performance of the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary to a whole new level.

CHASSIS AND ERGONOMICS

  • SUSPENSIONS: To make the motorcycle even more effective in track riding, Ducati has chosen to equip the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary with Öhlins components. The NX30 front fork and TTX36 rear shock absorber guarantee maximum smoothness and are designed to achieve the best performance on the circuit, with a set-up that makes the bike more precise and offers the rider greater feeling and greater support in all riding phases. The steering damper, thanks to the adjustments it is equipped with, allows you to customize its calibration by adapting it to riding style and the characteristics of the track.
  • The chassis is based on a monocoque frame, and the single-seater configuration explicitly recalls the look of the renowned racing bike.

DESIGN

  • THE IMPRINT OF THE CHAMPION: The Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary is characterized by its special celebration livery, inspired by the 996 R bike that accompanied Bayliss during his conquest of his first world title in 2001. Ducati red is the main color of the bike, and it joins green and white in a tribute to the Italian spirit of the Bologna-based motorcycle manufacturer, while the iconic #21, Troy Bayliss' race number, and the Shell logo, which visually strengthen the link with the racing bike, stand out on the sides and front. Troy's autograph is reproduced on the fuel tank, while the billet aluminum triple clamp shows the name of the bike and the progressive numbering of this unique model.
  • A STYLE THAT EVOKES VICTORIES AND PERFORMANCE.: The equipment is completed by the sport grips, the silencer outlet cover in carbon fiber and titanium and the rider seat made by combining two different technical materials with double red stitching. Troy’s number 21 is embroidered on the saddle and, together with the green and red bands, makes up the Italian flag.

ELECTRONICS

  • ABS BOSCH CORNERING EVO: The ABS system on the Panigale V2 features the cornering function (which keeps the ABS working even with the bike leaned over) and has the same intervention logic and control as on the V4. ABS Bosch Cornering EVO can be set at three different levels to fully satisfy the needs of all riders, on road or racetrack, even under critical low-grip conditions. Level 3 is intended for road use or in circumstances where there is little grip, ensuring safe, stable braking and keeping rear wheel lift under constant control during hard deceleration. Levels 2 and 1, instead, prioritize braking power and are better suited to sports riding on high-grip surfaces and racetracks. Level 2 is recommended for amateur track riding; the system controls both the front and rear brakes, keeps the cornering function on but disables lift-up control to allow harder, sportier braking. Selecting Level 2 also enables the 'slide by brake' function, letting riders drift into the bends spectacularly, effectively, and safely. Level 1 is not the default setting on any of the Riding Modes: it must be deliberately selected as it is intended for on-track use by expert riders. It provides racing-standard ABS intervention on the front wheel only. Both the cornering and anti lift-up functions are disabled to generate maximum performance.
  • DUCATI TRACTION CONTROL (DTC) EVO 2: The new Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2 strategy is an offshoot of the Ducati Desmosedici GP18. In addition to interfacing with the 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and adapting intervention based on wheelspin and lean angle, the software significantly improves out-of-the-corner power control thanks to a new 'predictive' strategy. Acting not just based on instantaneous rear wheelspin but also its variation, it intercepts any loss of grip sooner and reduces peak wheelspin, ensuring faster, smoother intervention. All this means augmented out-of-the-corner stability (even in sub-optimal grip conditions), higher acceleration, better lap times and improved long run performance. In addition to controlling spark advance and injection, the DTC EVO 2 system uses, in all situations not requiring fast intervention, the throttle body valves to maintain optimal combustion parameters and ensure more fluid engine response and control. DTC EVO 2 can be set to 8 different levels (6 for dry conditions, 2 for wet), letting riders adapt control strategy to their individual riding styles and grip conditions to maximize performance.
  • ENGINE BRAKE CONTROL (EBC) EVO: The EBC (Engine Brake Control) system was developed to help riders optimize bike stability under extreme turn-in conditions; it does so by balancing the forces applied to the rear tire under severe engine-braking conditions. The Panigale V2 EBC EVO system, optimized according to lean angle, monitors throttle valve position, selected gear and Superquadro crankshaft deceleration during aggressive braking and adjusts throttle aperture to balance out the torque forces applied to the tire.
  • RIDING MODE: Riding Modes provide users with three different pre-set riding styles so that Panigale V2 performance can be adapted to rider, track/route and weather conditions. Each Riding Mode is associated with a different control parameter set-up: selecting a different Riding Mode, then, instantly alters the 'character' of the engine and electronic controls. Riding Mode Race Race Riding Mode - As the name suggests, Race RM allows less experienced riders to enjoy top-end bike performance on high-grip track surfaces. Selecting Race gives the rider 155 hp, with direct Ride by Wire throttle response. Race mode sets the electronics at a low intervention level but without compromising safety, with ABS set to level 2, lift-up control off and the 'slide by brake' function (which lets riders drift the bike into the corners safely) on. Riding Mode Sport Sport Riding Mode - Selecting Sport gives the rider 155 hp, with direct sport-style Ride by Wire throttle response. Electronic controls are set to give riders perfect dry road ride responsiveness. Rear wheel lift detection during braking is on and the ABS Cornering EVO function is set to maximize cornering performance. Riding Mode Street Street Riding Mode - Street mode is recommended when riding on surfaces with poor grip. As with the Sport RM, this mode provides riders with 155 hp and progressive Ride by Wire throttle response. Electronic control settings ensure grip and stability to maximize safety. Riders can, of course, personalize settings to suit their riding style and subsequently restore Ducati-set parameters. They can also enable ABS Level 1 (intended for on-track use by highly expert riders) which acts on the front wheel only and disables the cornering and lift-up functions to allow full-on braking performance.
  • The new electronics package raises active safety and dynamic control standards by adding the cornering function to the ABS, upgrading the quickshift so it now covers down-changes and including traction control, engine brake control and wheelie control. All controls are incorporated as expected in the three Riding Modes (Race, Sport, Street) and can be adjusted via the new 4.3" color TFT dashboard. Featuring a user-friendly graphic interface browsing menus, adjusting settings, and identifying the selected Riding Mode could not be easier.

FEATURES

  • DUCATI-BAYLISS: THE LEGEND CONTINUES: Troy Bayliss, Claudio Domenicali and Davide Tardozzi present a new chapter in a highly successful story.
  • A UNQUE PANIGALE. TWIN CYLINDER. BAYLISSTIC.: 52 wins, 94 podiums and 3 World Superbike Championships: the Ducati-Bayliss pair was one of the most successful in the motorsports world. His name along with the racing performances of this Australian have made an indelible imprint in the heart of all the Ducatisti, and the perfect match between Ducati and “Baylisstic” has been rekindled to produce this celebration motorcycle, manufactured in a numbered series, whose graphic details and name were chosen working side by side.
  • INTERVIEW WITH TROY: On the occasion of the launch of the new Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary, the champion from Taree talks about his indissoluble bond with Ducati: from his relationship with the twin-cylinder bikes to his fans, from the origin of the number 21 to the first victories of his son Oli on the Panigale V4 R.

PERFORMANCE

  • RIDING MODE: NEVER GIVE UP.: The Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary is powered by the 955 cm³ twin cylinder Superquadro engine. It delivers a maximum power of 155 hp at 10,750 rpm and maximum torque of 76.7 lb-ft at 9,000 rpm to guarantee full scale Ducati emotions and performance. Compared to the Panigale V2, the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary is more than 6.5 lbs lighter, thanks to the use of a lithium-ion battery and the choice to adopt a single-seater configuration that explicitly recalls the look of the renowned racing bike.
  • INJECTORS AND INLET DUCTS: Like the Panigale V2, Performance enhancement largely stems from the new injectors (two per cylinder, one above and one below the butterfly, larger, and re-angled) and the new inlet ducts which, delivery rates remaining equal, lose less pressure than their predecessors, thus boosting intake efficiency. Oval throttle body dimensions remain unchanged with an equivalent diameter of 62 mm. Throttle bodies are controlled independently of each other via a full Ride by Wire system.
  • SILENCER: The new silencer has a new internal layout and, back pressure remaining equal, abates noise spikes more easily. This has led to a considerable reduction in silencer bulk. The new silencer also houses two larger, enhanced-impregnation catalytic converters.
  • 90° CYLINDERS: On the Panigale V2 the engine acts as a stressed member of the frame. Set 90° apart, the cylinders are banked rearwards around the crankshaft axis, resulting in a 21° angle between front cylinder and horizontal plane. The two-cylinder heads and aluminum top covers feature a ribbed design to reduce mechanical noise. The crankcases are vacuum diecast using Vacural® technology to optimize weight saving and ensure consistent wall thickness and increased strength. Crankcase cover, clutch cover and sump are all made of diecast aluminum.
  • TRANSMISSION: Transmission features a six-speed gearbox with the Ducati Quick Shift up/down EVO 2 system and an oil bathed clutch. The latter has an anti-patter and progressive self-servo mechanism that compresses the friction plates when under drive from the engine without any extra effort required from the rider to release the clutch.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

  • AS IF IT HAS JUST COME OUT OF THE PITS: The track spirit of the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary bike is also expressed in the prestigious Öhlins components: the fork, steering damper and rear shock absorber allow a much higher performance on the track, in addition to giving the bike an even more sporty look. Compared to the Panigale V2, the Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary is more than 6.5 lbs lighter, thanks to the use of a lithium-ion battery and the choice to adopt a single-seater configuration that explicitly recalls the track alignment of the bike used in the racing season (passenger seat and foot pegs are available by request).
